Adelaide to Sydney apartment delivery guide

Picking up the Sydney keys is a good moment. Before the furniture follows, check how it will get from the vehicle into your apartment. The loading space, lift and person meeting the crew all need to be available together.

This guide helps you turn the building's instructions into a workable delivery plan with Interstate Removalists Co. For transport choices, packing and a quote, start with our Adelaide to Sydney removalists page.

Open apartment lift with protective wall pads and a clear entrance
Ask which lift is approved for furniture and when it can be used.

Get the Sydney building's move-in instructions first

Ask the agent, strata manager or building manager for the current moving procedure. The person who gives you the keys may need to introduce you to someone else who controls the lift or loading dock. Find that contact before choosing a delivery appointment.

Request the by-laws and any separate delivery form. NSW Government's strata guidance explains that rules vary between schemes. A friend's experience in another Sydney building cannot establish your permitted hours, notice period or access procedure.

  • Ask about the permitted day and hours. Check whether the appointment covers arrival only or the whole unloading period, including removing equipment.
  • Identify the approved entrance and lift. Confirm how the crew reaches them and who controls any access fob or operating mode.
  • Request the paperwork early. Find out whether a contractor form, insurance certificate, protection deposit or other document is required. Send the requirements to IRCO for checking.
  • Confirm how to change the booking. Record the contact, notice required and any applicable charge or deposit condition.

Keep the instructions with the removal quote. If the building asks for a certificate, have the office confirm the document the actual service provider can supply. Building paperwork does not establish insurance cover for your household contents; check that separately alongside the IRCO terms.

Give each delivery task a named owner

“The building knows we are moving” is easy to say when several people have exchanged messages. A short list of tasks makes it clearer what is actually arranged. Use the table below to agree responsibilities; it does not assume the mover or building manager automatically handles everything.

Mark each task as confirmed or still to arrange. A submitted lift request is not the same as an accepted reservation. Send the completed information to IRCO and ask the office to confirm which delivery arrangement can work with it.

Check where the furniture vehicle can actually stop

The address on your lease may be different from the loading entrance. Ask for the access street, gate instructions, height restriction and any limits on vehicle length or turning. Give the office those details so it can assess the vehicle; a basement intended for residents' cars may not suit furniture transport.

For street unloading, photograph the signs and the path into the building. NSW parking rules allow eligible goods vehicles to use loading zones while picking up or delivering goods, generally for up to 30 minutes. Check the signs and applicable restrictions. A loading zone is not a reserved bay for the duration of a household move.

Use the council responsible for the actual Sydney address. For a property within the City of Sydney, residential visitor permits have address, area and sign conditions; eligible use can include a removalist's truck. Some apartment addresses cannot obtain these permits. Check the current conditions rather than assuming your new home qualifies or that a permit reserves a space.

If the unloading point changes, measure the additional carrying path and tell the office. Ask whether extra carrying, a different vehicle or a separate transfer needs to be arranged and priced. Private building access and public-road permission are separate questions.

Send an access record the mover can assess

Choose the largest or most awkward pieces first: the sofa with fixed arms, tall bookcase, fridge or one-piece tabletop. Record each item's dimensions and which parts can be removed safely. Photograph the piece before wrapping so its shape is clear.

Then follow its delivery path in order: unloading point, building entrance, lift or stairs, corridor turn and apartment doorway. Record the clear openings, lift cabin dimensions and tight corners. A photograph facing a turn and another looking back through it can explain more than a close-up of one door frame.

Include fixtures that reduce the opening and tell the office where measurements are uncertain. Protection adds bulk, and an item still needs room to turn. Let the mover assess the method rather than treating a tape measurement as a guarantee that the furniture will fit.

If dismantling is proposed, decide who does it in Adelaide and who reassembles the item in Sydney. Our flat-pack furniture guide covers preparation questions. Do not remove common-property fixtures or alter an apartment entrance as an improvised access solution; involve the building contact before considering any change.

Match the building appointment to the offered delivery

Give IRCO the exact Sydney restriction while the transport is being assessed. A backloading delivery window needs to be compatible with the building's available hours. Ask what arrival notice the office can provide and who will contact the receiving person.

Consider this planning example: you can collect the keys on Tuesday, but the building only offers you a Thursday furniture slot. Thursday is the first usable receiving appointment unless another arrangement is approved. Tell the mover both dates while the goods are still in Adelaide; do not organise the load around Tuesday keys alone.

If the proposed transport cannot meet the slot, work through the options with the office and building contact. A different slot, revised collection or separately priced holding and final-delivery stage may be possible. Use our storage and later-delivery guide to check handling, notice and access costs before accepting that option.

Write Sydney appointments in Sydney local time. Sydney is 30 minutes ahead of Adelaide, as shown in Tourism Australia's time-zone guide. “Lift available from 10 am Sydney time” gives everyone the same reference.

Agree on the response if access is unavailable

Keep the building contact and moving office numbers with the receiving person. Ask who they should call first if the lift fails, the dock is occupied or keys are delayed. Establish who can approve a changed arrangement and how any waiting, storage or return delivery will be quoted. Do not assume furniture can be left in the foyer while the issue is resolved.

Make the Sydney handover straightforward

Before collection in Adelaide, send the final inventory and identify the furniture that needs particular access attention. Pack and label components consistently with that record. If you need help preparing fragile items, arrange packing assistance before the collection appointment.

The Sydney receiving person needs working access, the furniture list and simple room instructions. Label rooms consistently with the cartons and explain where larger items belong. They also need enough time to stay for the agreed delivery, rather than simply opening a door and leaving.

  • Confirm who installs and removes any required lift or floor protection.
  • Record existing marks along the agreed common-area route where the building procedure allows.
  • Keep corridors, stairs and exits clear while items are moved into the apartment.
  • Check the delivered load and note concerns accurately with the crew and office.
  • Confirm the arrangements for cartons, wrapping and other packaging before using communal bins or leaving the building.

Fire and Rescue NSW's high-rise advice warns against wedging fire-stair doors open or leaving items in fire stairs. Ask building staff about approved access operation; a convenient shortcut should not compromise an exit.

Complete any required building sign-off and keep the records with the delivery paperwork. A building inspection and your furniture check serve different purposes. If a concern appears when cartons are opened later, follow the reporting process agreed with the office.

Build your Adelaide to Sydney apartment delivery brief

Collect the building requirements and unresolved questions below. The tool creates text you can review and copy into your IRCO enquiry. It does not reserve a lift, contact the building or book transport. Leave access codes and private documents out of the brief.

The summary stays on this page until you choose to copy it.

Review the details, then copy the text into your quote enquiry. Prices, acceptance, capacity and dates need to be confirmed with the office.

Apartment delivery questions for Adelaide to Sydney moves

Who should book the Sydney apartment lift?

Follow the building's procedure and agree who submits the request. Obtain written confirmation of the approved hours, access method and any protection requirements. Send those details to IRCO so the offered delivery can be checked against the reservation.

How much notice does a Sydney building need for moving in?

Ask your building contact for its current notice period and available slots. Requirements vary, so there is no single deadline that applies to every Sydney apartment. Check how much notice is needed for changes as well as the initial booking.

Does a lift booking guarantee space for the removal truck?

No. Confirm the unloading position separately, including private-dock limits or public-street restrictions. Give the office photographs, clearances and the carrying route. Check any permission or permit with the authority responsible for that location.

Can the truck use a loading zone for the whole delivery?

Do not assume so. NSW loading zones have eligibility, activity and time conditions, generally allowing eligible goods vehicles up to 30 minutes while loading or unloading. Check signs and discuss a lawful arrangement suited to the job with the office and relevant council.

What measurements help with a large sofa or cabinet?

Send the furniture's dimensions and removable components, plus the clear entrances, lift cabin and door dimensions, corridor turns and apartment doorway. Add photographs in sequence along the route. The mover needs to assess both the item and the space available to handle it.

What if my Adelaide pickup is confirmed but Sydney access is not?

Tell IRCO before collection and identify what is missing. Ask whether a revised date or an agreed holding and final-delivery arrangement is needed. Confirm the costs and notice requirements rather than leaving the receiving stage unresolved.

Can a friend meet the furniture while I travel from Adelaide?

Agree their role with the office and give them the inventory, placement instructions, working keys or fobs and your contact details. Confirm what they can sign or approve. They should be available for the agreed handover and know whom to call if access changes.

Are lift protection and packaging removal included?

Ask the building what protection is required and agree who supplies, installs and removes it. Separately confirm any unpacking or packaging-removal service with IRCO. The building's expectations and the removal quote need to describe compatible arrangements.

Send IRCO the building details while there is time to plan

Share the Adelaide load, the Sydney access instructions and the appointment you need. You can flag unanswered questions in the same enquiry—we will use them to assess the proposed removal arrangement.
