Local, interstate and small furniture moves

A move across Tweed Heads, a delivery over the border to the Gold Coast and a household relocation to Melbourne need different arrangements. Start with the exact pickup and delivery addresses, then choose the level of help you want. Availability, handling requirements and the collection and delivery windows are confirmed for your individual move.

Local home & apartment moves

For a move within the Tweed area or nearby Gold Coast, explain the access at both properties. A short drive can still involve substantial loading time if there are stairs, a booked lift or a long walk from the truck.

Long-distance & interstate moves

Moving to Sydney, Brisbane or further afield? Provide your earliest collection and latest acceptable delivery dates. Flag settlement or lease deadlines before choosing a transport option.

Small loads & backloading

Sending a lounge, whitegoods or a few rooms of furniture? Ask whether suitable shared truck space is available. Include dimensions and quantities; even a small load needs an accurate inventory.

For backloading removals, your goods use available space on a suitable truck journey. It can be worth comparing when your dates are flexible, but the price and delivery window depend on the route and space available. If you need a fixed handover time, make that clear before accepting a shared-load arrangement.

You can also request packing assistance for a whole home or selected fragile items. Identify office furniture, storage-unit collections and any extra stops separately. Ask for packing materials, dismantling, reassembly and storage arrangements to be specified where required.

For goods moving in a container, enquire about container transport and describe the container size, contents and access at both sites. Confirm the loading and unloading arrangements before assuming a standard furniture-removal service includes them.

How much do Tweed Heads removalists cost?

The useful figure is the cost for your inventory, addresses and agreed service. A bedroom count or advertised hourly rate cannot describe every move. Two households of the same size can need different truck space, crew time and handling.

Request a written quote that states how the charge is calculated, what is included and what could change it. These are the main details to compare:

  • Load size: furniture quantities, estimated carton count, outdoor items and everything in the garage or storage area. Give measurements for oversized pieces.
  • Access at both ends: stairs, lift availability, doorway clearance, driveway conditions and the distance between legal truck parking and the entrance.
  • Route and dates: all collection and delivery stops, any fixed deadlines and whether you can offer a range of dates.
  • Preparation and extras: packing labour and materials, dismantling, reassembly, additional handling and any storage or redelivery you request.
  • Charging conditions: GST, travel or call-out charges, minimum time, overtime or waiting charges, and the circumstances in which the price can change.

If quoted by time

Check the number of movers, the billing increment and when charging starts and stops. Ask whether travel, waiting for keys or a lift booking, and return travel are included.

If quoted a fixed amount

Check the inventory, access assumptions and services covered by that amount. Ask how additions to the load or a change of address or delivery date will be handled.

If quoted a backload

Check the allocated space, collection and delivery windows, and whether transfers or storage are involved. Compare those arrangements alongside the total price.

To reduce avoidable costs, decide what you are keeping before requesting quotes, finish any agreed self-packing before collection, and organise building access in advance. If your dates are flexible, ask whether another collection window changes the price. Use the same inventory for each enquiry; our removalist quote comparison guide explains how to compare inclusions and conditions.

Plan both sides of a Tweed Heads move

Include the suburb and postcode at each address. Tweed Heads, Tweed Heads South and Tweed Heads West are distinct locations; an enquiry for Banora Point, Bilambil Heights, Terranora, Chinderah or Kingscliff should name that locality. This helps us assess your actual route and the arrangements available for your dates.

Crossing the NSW–Queensland border

Moving between Tweed Heads and Coolangatta, Kirra or another Gold Coast suburb crosses the state border, even when the drive is short. The distance and work involved still determine the moving arrangements. For a Gold Coast pickup or delivery, also see our Gold Coast removalist information.

Confirm the time zone as well as the time. During daylight saving, NSW is one hour ahead of Queensland. A 9 am NSW appointment is 8 am in Queensland. Write the local time and state on pickup, lift and key-collection bookings, especially when several people are coordinating the move. Check the NSW Government daylight saving dates for your moving day.

Apartments, lifts and shared buildings

Ask the building manager about removal hours, lift reservations, protective coverings and the approved unloading point. Measure the lift door and internal space for large furniture, then check the path to your unit. A lift booking at pickup does not reserve a lift at delivery: organise both, and tell us if there is a gap between them.

Driveways, parking and difficult furniture

Send photographs of narrow or steep driveways, steps, gates and any low clearance. Identify where a truck can legally stop and how far the furniture must be carried. Ask whether the proposed vehicle can access the property or whether another arrangement is needed; do not assume it can use an underground car park or stop directly outside.

Measure bulky lounges, wardrobes and dining tables against doorways and turns. List pianos, pool tables, safes and unusually heavy or fragile pieces before booking so suitability, equipment and any specialist handling can be assessed. A description such as “three-bedroom house” will not reveal those requirements.

Keys, settlement and a delayed delivery

Make sure someone can release the goods at pickup and receive them at the destination. Explain any settlement time, lease handover or storage-unit access window. If you cannot receive the load immediately, ask about the available storage and later-delivery options, including their separate costs, before collection.

Get your moving quote ready in six steps

Use this checklist when completing the moving quote form. If a detail is undecided, identify it as an estimate and update it before the service is confirmed.

  1. Write down every address. Include the suburb, postcode, unit number, floor and any additional collection or delivery stops.
  2. List the load room by room. Add furniture, appliances, cartons, garage contents, outdoor items and storage goods. Note what you will take yourself.
  3. Separate fixed dates from preferences. Give the earliest pickup, latest delivery and any non-negotiable key or building bookings.
  4. Describe access at both properties. Include stairs, lifts, parking, carry distances and photographs or measurements for tight spaces.
  5. Choose the help you want. Specify self-packing or packing assistance, fragile items, dismantling and any storage requirement.
  6. Check the written arrangements. Confirm the service provider, move-day contact, inclusions, payment and cancellation terms, and what happens if the plan changes.

Before moving day, label cartons by destination room and mark fragile contents clearly. Keep keys, documents, medication, chargers and first-night essentials with you. Our packing tips and recommendations can help you prepare the rest of the load.

Tweed Heads moving questions

Can I arrange a local move as well as an interstate move?

Yes, you can enquire about local furniture removals, nearby cross-border moves and longer interstate transport. Send both addresses, the load and your dates so the service available for that particular move can be confirmed. A short move still needs an access and handling assessment.

Is backloading suitable if I only have a few items?

It may be, when suitable truck space and timing are available. Give the item dimensions, quantity and pickup and delivery windows. Ask about minimum charges and compare the total with other options. Backloading does not automatically mean a lower price or a particular delivery day.

How far ahead should I request a quote?

Enquire once you know the likely route, load and dates. Flag fixed settlement dates, building reservations and weekend requirements early. If your move is urgent, call with those details to check current availability; do not assume a last-minute booking or same-day delivery is possible.

Do I need to empty drawers and dismantle beds?

Ask what preparation is required for your particular furniture. Agree which items you will dismantle and which tasks are included in the service. Keep labelled fittings together and tell us about heavy contents, fragile mechanisms or assembly instructions. Follow the agreed preparation advice before collection.

Can you pack fragile items or move a piano?

Request packing assistance and identify specialist items in the initial enquiry. For a piano, pool table or heavy piece, provide photographs, dimensions, the type of item and access details. The handling method, service availability and any extra charges need confirmation before it is included in the booking.

What should I check about cover for my belongings?

Ask for the applicable cover and conditions in writing, including exclusions, excesses and the claims process. Clarify how owner-packed cartons, valuable items, storage and any transfers are treated. Do not assume every item or situation is covered simply because a quote mentions insurance.

What if my inventory or moving date changes?

Contact the office before the move and request written confirmation of the revised arrangements. Extra furniture, restricted access or a later delivery can affect the vehicle space, schedule and price. Tell us as soon as you know, especially if a key handover or lift booking changes.
